From Ocean to ocean; here is how activist Sam Bencheghib is spreading awareness against plastic pollution.
Fri 30 08 2019

Throughout the years, plastic have played major roles in our lives especially for being part of almost every item in our household. However, it has also been at the base of the pollution which became the biggest environmental concern today. According to Great Britain's Royal Statistical Society, 18 billions of plastic bags make it to the ocean yearly and only 9% of the global plastic production is being recycled. So can you imagine how much polluting plastic is being produced and thrown into our nature yearly?

For this reason, many environmental organizations and activists are trying to shed light on the importance of becoming responsible with the way we use plastic. One of the activists is Sam Bencheghib, who is spreading awareness in his own way.

Who is Sam Bencheghib?

He is a 22-years-old environmental activist who co-founded Make A Change World, an environmental initiative that aims at spreading awareness regarding the cleanliness of the beaches and coastal community.

Sam Bencheghib, will be running from one side of the United States to the other as a way to show people how crucial it is to save our planet from all the harms we are causing. He will start his journey from New York and will end it in Los Angeles, wearing recycled plastic shoes, something that no one has ever done before.

What is Ocean2Ocean?

Bencheghib’s mission in the US falls under the name of Ocean2Ocean, given that he is crossing the country from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean

His goal is to influence the people of the cities or villages he will pass by during his trajectory. He wants to show them the importance of their actions in protecting the environment and producing less waste. One of the ways he will be doing so is by hosting presentations and discussions in educational institutions such as schools and universities. This will help target the youth, who are believed to be the makers of the future, and shed light on the negative effects of plastic and how it is polluting the environment. Sam will work on teaching the basics of environmental preservation to the people he will encounter; the events he will organize will be different and original. For example zero-waste workshops will be hosted and documentaries about the same purpose will be screened, while city cleanups are on top of his list. Sam would love for people, clubs and athlete organizations to join him, even for a brief distance while running.

What is the relationship between StepChain and Ocean2Ocean?

Being a responsible fitness App and since our aim is to spread awareness regarding obesity and show the importance of a healthy lifestyle, we decided to join Bencheghib’s steps. Even though our missions are different, they are complimentary.

Therefore, StepChain will be sponsoring Sam’s journey and cause, as we believe that a healthy body lives better in a clean environment and making the world a better place is our main mission and one of our most dedicated values.

Because we believe that plastic pollution is becoming one of the most negatively impactful issues, we have dedicating a section in our application to track Sam’s progress; counting his steps, moves and talking about the challenges he is facing throughout his journey.

Consequently, we invite you to take part in this initiative by downloading the StepChain app now, to track Bencheghib’s voyage.
