Almost everyone knows how important it is to drink water every day to keep your body healthy and functioning well. However, how many of us drink as much water as we should? According to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, men should drink 3.7 liters of water or 15 cups and a half, while women need to drink up to 2.7 liters or 11 cups and a half of water. So how do you drink 11 or 15 cups of water per day? Here are 15 ways to drink more water during the day!
1. Add fruits and vegetables to your water bottle
Adding flavor to your water makes you want to drink it even more. There are different combinations of tastes that you can adopt from fresh fruits such as strawberries, grapefruits, and lemon to veggie slices like ginger, cucumber, and celery to herbs (basil, mint, and lavender).
2. Drink a cup of water every time you go to the bathroom
Going to the bathroom means ridding your body of fluids, therefore, this is a good time to replace them.
3. Track your progress with an app
There are many apps that set reminders for you to drink water every while. Identify your goal and the app will set the right interval of time when to remind you to drink.
4. Add water or ice to sugary drinks
If you are drinking something that has lots of sugar, dilute it with more water. Add ice to your lemonade so you can enjoy its taste, drink more water, and avoid consuming lots of sugar.
5. Drink water instead of soda
Swap all your unhealthy beverages with something healthier or with water. If you are craving something sparkling then opt for sparkling water!
6. Consume foods that are rich in water
Water does not come only from the tap or bottles. Foods such as fruits and vegetables are rich in water content. So consume more cucumber, zucchini, watermelon, and grapefruits because they are more than 90% water.
7. Fill your water bottle right away
Whenever your water bottle is empty, fill it right away so you do not feel lazy to get a water cup whenever it is time to drink.
8. Have salty snacks
Consuming salt makes you thirstier and wanting to drink water more often, so why not include more salts in your snack time?
9. Keep a water bottle with you everywhere you go, especially the gym
Keeping a water bottle with you is a reminder that you need to drink. Whenever you see the bottle you will reach for it and drink, reaching your daily goals easily.
10. Set deadlines
Deadlines help you stick to your goal. Say to yourself I will drink 7 cups of water before 1 pm and make sure you are tracking how many cups you’ve drunk so far. This will make it look easier for you to hold on to your goal and succeed in drinking enough water daily.
